The 3 Ways Ceramic Tile Can Be Installed. What You Don't Know May Cost You.

Depending on they type of project and the budget, one of these three processes would be used. Each type has a different cost and a slightly better quality than the one before.

Like any other project, there are different levels of quality in completing a project. When it comes to installing ceramic tile, there are roughly three ways that a job can be completed. Each type has a different cost and a slightly better quality than the one before. Depending on they type of project and the budget, one of these three processes would be used.

This first method is usually used for rental properties or apartments. The general goal is to get the flooring in the home with the least amount of money as possible while still making the home livable and for the most part aesthetically pleasing. This method is called Production Style. This is where they come in and lay the flooring without paying much attention to potential problems that may come up in the long run. This includes cracks, un-level concrete, previous glue or tar that has not been removed or not using quality products to finish the job. This would include grout and thinset. While the Production Style is cost effective at first, it could lead to many problems down the line including the tile separating from the concrete, cracking, cracked tile and more
. The cost to repair and replace could be quite expensive.

The second method takes a little bit more care and money but will yield better results than the previous, this is the Semi Mudded technique. With this technique, the installers will actually take more time to make sure the tile is aligned with the sub-floor. This is done by adding more or less thinset to make the tiles appear level. This is a nicer looking project once completed but still isn't a sure-proof way to make sure you don't have issues in the future. Because the previous layers still haven't been removed, there is still risk of the tile raising later in the future.

The third method is the most expensive but is the best in quality and craftsmanship for the long run. This method is the Full Mudded style and is sure to save you a lot of money in the long run. In this style the subfloor has been full repaired if need be and any other issues have been brought up to full disclosure and professionally handled. Each tile is individually laid and has the appropriate amount of thinset and the highest quality.
