Easy Steps To Go Green

Save money on your electric cost and go green to help the environment at the same time with compact fluorescent and LEDs

Easy Steps to Go Green

by David Squire

Do you want to lower your electric cost and help your environment at the same time. One step is to install a dimming switch in your rooms most used often. The other is to replace your light bulbs to some of newest low cost bulbs on the market.

A dimmer switch can be picked up at your local hardware store or your favorite online store. These switches are easy to install and can help by turning down the lights you use the most. Also you can enhance the mood and create a calm living atmosphere.

Another way to reduce that pesky bill is to change your light bulbs. Compact Florescent light bulbs or (CFLs) are those funny spiral light bulbs that are everywhere now. These light bulbs will last much longer and use a fraction of the energy a standard light bulb uses.

For example how these bulbs can save you money on your electric bill, a 13
-15 watt CFL has the same light power as a 60 watt standard light bulb. If your kitchen uses 6, 60 watt light bulbs you will use 360 watts apposed to changing to CFLs and only using 90 watts.

New to the market is the LED. LED technology is coming on the scene and will most likely be the norm in the near future.

For example a 45watt LED has the same power as a 45 watt regular bulb but only uses 3.5 watts, this example is based on interior LED bulbs.

Can you imagine the savings if you had 6, 45 watt bulbs in your kitchen you would be burning 270 watts. Now, change those same bulbs to LEDS and you will light up the same space and use only 21 watts, that"s halve the power of one 45 watt bulb.

Weather choosing CFLs or LEDs just make sure they are dimmer switch compatible before you install them if you are planning on installing a dimmer switch.
