How to Train Dogs
It may seem like a very simple task at first, but training dogs isn’t a walk in the park. You see, even before you can actually walk your dog to the park, you have to teach your pooch to be obedient. Your dog won’t do anything for you unless you teach it the basics. Dogs are adventurous and playful creatures, so it is very important for you to take control of these attributes. Here are some tips on how to train dogs.
Be Consistent
Dogs descended from wolves. This means that they go by the pack system. To get your dog’s trust, you have to show that you are a good leader – the leader of the pack. The trick is to establish yourself firmly. No is no and that’s your dog’s only option. Naturally, your new pet will test you and try to push boundaries. Show that this can’t be done and your rule is the law. However, you should so this in a non-threatening way.
Use positive reinforcements and instill the idea that obedience entails reward.Use Your Eyes
Using eye contact is an important thing to do if you want to reinforce your leadership. This lets the dog see that you know what you are doing and that you are very serious about giving instructions. Look into your dog’s eyes when giving instructions. This will show him or her that you are the authority figure to be followed.
Use Fair Punishment
Even the most good natured dogs can get a bit disobedient sometimes. Dog’s playful and adventurous nature carries them away and causes them to disobey you. In an even this happens, do not use force or violence. Beating your dog, hitting it, or screaming at it will only instill fear. This will be detrimental to your pet.
He or she might develop traumas and not be capable of responding normally. So if your dog disobeys you, use a disappointed tone and use gestures. Show that you are upset. Maintain eye contact when doing so. Some forms of sensible punishment is sending your pet to the doghouse, taking away a toy, and not giving doggie treats.Be Compassionate
Show your pet that aside from being a leader, you can also be a friend. Being a good owner will make your dog loyal to you. He or she will gladly follow everything you say. Show affection and appreciation for a job well done. This will motivate your pet t be obedient.

I’m trying to get my dog training business up and running and I’m still unsure what I should charge for training someone’s dog. The schedule would likely be an hour a day 3 – 4 days a week for 3 – 4 weeks. Should I charge by the hour, week, or a flat rate. Some dogs will take longer than others and my schedule will fluctuate some (I do SAR work). I’m not doing this to get rich and want my clients to be satisfied with a well behaved dog. I’m not sure what a reasonable price to charge would be for someone who doesn’t have a reputation built up yet but does have the skills.
What would you be willing to pay? Suggestions appreciated.

Most of the sessions will be one on one with me and the dog doing basic obedience but I understand that I will also have to have sessions with the dog owner covering what we’ve learned and how they are to handle the dog. Handling and training are 2 different things. I will take a good look at the dog’s home and make suggestions regarding it’s schedule and acceptible behavior. I don’t intend to get too deep with behavioral problems at first but the way I train covers more than just your basic obedience exercises. Socialization and confidence building will play a large part too.

I am very interested in helping to raise / train dogs or puppies to become service dogs for people with disabilities. I am looking for an organization in the Oklahoma City area that does this. What I am interested in doing is helping to get the puppy used to everything, such as taking it to the store, out to eat, the airport, etc. I have seen puppies wearing those vests before, but not lately and not since I moved to Oklahoma. Does anyone know of an organization like this or where I might be able to find more information on it? Thank you!

My son has been going to the fights with me since he was 5 and he absolutely loves watching the dogs perform. I have not got him into the training side of it yet because I always thought he was to small to control a dog. Now that he is older though he will not stop begging me to teach him how to train them. Do you think a 13 year old is responsible enough to train.
Yes I want to teach him how to train dogs to fight. It is legal here in Romania.

I have a 1 year old dog (yorkie) and two parakeets (3 years old). I want them to get along. My mother had a dog and parakeet growing up and the parakeet would actually sit on the dogs head!
If I take the birds out the dog is in attack mode. Even if I am holding the dog she is trying to nip at the birds.
I just want everyone to get along!

I see people do it everyday @ the park, walking down the street etc. How is this possible? My oldest baby Maggie (4) is the best with walking, she doesn’t tug and she can go without a leash sometimes. I didn’t train her to do this and it is only within this past year she has been trusted to do so.
Maggie is a basset/beagle, others are a mini dachshund and border collie mixes.
I think it is a bond of trust. Maggie is the best dog I have ever had (in her puppy days I couldn’t say the same), although she’s more of a human than a dog.
I’m adopting a 4yr old and her 8month old pup- what can I do to begin this as soon as they arrive here? Thanks…!

How do they do it?
how to house train dogs at night.
i am disabled . have to wake up and let the dogs out.
I have been reading about people that are owners of dogs are using the dogs and trainng them for dog fights. I see this type of story on the news and read about them in the newspapers. When ever I hear about people abusing their pets,I start to cry because of how people abuse their pets. I just heard about that baskeball player training the pitbulls for dogfights. What is wrong with people that abuse animals? Do they not have love for other people or pets they own? I just can’t believe that people will abuse pets for money or the fun of it. Don’t people that abuse pets have any sympathy or empathy for the pets they are abusing? When ever I hear a story about a person abusing their dog or cat and etc, it stuns me that people like that enjoy seeing these animals abused. I start feeling sorry for all these animals that are bein abused by their owner or owners.

How much do you make a year training dogs to assist the blind?
I have two lab mixes – one is 10, the other is two. We got the younger one a little over a year ago, when she was 9 months old. The two dogs get along okay but they are both still really jealous of any attention I give to the other. Any suggestions on how to ease their insecurities?
The question says it all. How does a dog owner train their dog to be friendly to strangers and to other dogs?
I have a 2 year old pekingnese. He is very well behaved. It did not take long to potty train him to go outside. However, there are times where I will not be available to bring him outside when he needs to potty. He refuses to potty on the potty pads in side the house. He will potty anywhere if he is not able to go potty outside. Any tips?
I have two Cockers-one guy and one girl-the guy uses the restroom in the house and never wants to go out HELP!
Would dog beds work? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
If you got a degree in dog training, did the research, and took all of the necessary precautions blah blah blah. Is it possible to train dogs for PP with one or two people or do you need a staff? What kind of staff would you need?
By a staff I mean a team of people who work for you.
My roomate and I both just got dogs. I got mine, a blue heeler, about a week or two before he got his yellow lab. My blue heeler went after his dog right away but seemed to calm down that night. We went to bed, my dog escaped my makeshift pen and when I woke up they were both hanging out downstairs no problem. They are usually ok with each other but when I bring my dog in from a walk he always goes berzerk. It happens every single time that when he comes in he goes right after the lab. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
The first couple times the lab was right at the door and I attributed it to the surprise. The last few though he’s been visible but on the other side of the house.
I have a Jack Russell Terrier, just over a year old. I live in an apartment complex where a lot of people own dogs.
When I am walking my dog and he spots another dog, he wildly tries to pull me in that direction. If the dog is close, my dog lets out loud shrill screams and continues to try to pull me. It is almost impossible to control and its embarassing.
Other than that he is very well behaved for a JRT and he is real smart. Just a little wild in certain situations, this being the worst.
So what can I do to control this behavior?
he’s not aggressive in a mean way. He just is curious I think and wants to play. But he plays rough with other dogs like wrestling around and nipping (no intent to hurt). If I let him check out the other dog, They sniff, then start wrestling and the leashes get tangled up.
I love Golden Retrievers but I would like to get into another breed. My mother in law has labs so I would like something different. I don’t care if it is a small dog or a big dog but I love the personality of Golden and I can not find a dog that is as perfect as a Golden. I want it to be good with kids and all people and other animals, dogs and cats alike. I want it to be loving and loyal and very playful. I want it to be sweet and gentle. Is there such a dog?
We are getting new carpet, which motivated us to buy beds for our dogs. We have two large golden retreivers and they have both slept where ever they’ve wanted for over 5 years, however they have specific corners that we have strategically placed the beds. We have commanded them to lie down on them, but when we walk away they just get up and go somewhere else. Any ideas?
For example:I can take a dog in a room an have him/her learn how to play dead in half an hour or less, sit in 10 mins etc.. My dog knows every trick in the book plus some I think I invented myself. Every dog I’ve come across, (even my sister’s old dog {world’s stupiest mutt}) managed to learn very fast. Its like a gift I guess. But I have no college under my belt at all. I have no idea what to charge, if people would even call, that is. Any suggestions?,(Besides college, I will go, but not for that profession)

I found a stray dog and I do want to keep her but the problem is that she’s not getting along with my other two small dogs, one male and the other female, mainly the female tries to attack her, what can I do to train all of them to get use to each other.
I have two siberian huskies and i want to buy them an invisible fence system. How do i train them for it?
the reason why i want this is because it is cheaper and they can escape from any fenced yard…
Hey there, so I’m 15 years old, I’ve loved dogs ever since I was little, I’ve read books, I’ve watched dog TV shows and videos on how to train, and I’d love to be able to train a dog. Is there anyway I can assist people with trainign their dogs or train dogs without having my own dog? Any ideas would be appreicated.
I cooked meal in afternoon and evening every time, when I sat on the chair or on the bed I ate my own foods, while my 2 dogs stared at foods so hard. I told them to go away from my foods so they came back over and over even they are stubborn, like ignore my word “go away”.
Can You Help Me Out to Train DOGS ?
Trained!
I have a 2 year old miniature pinscher, and she is not nice around other dogs at all. When we first got her, she met another min pin the second day we had her, and that dog nipped at her. I think this is the source of her fear. We do not know anyone else with a dog, so it is very difficult to socialize her with other dogs. We would like to get another one, but are apprehensive becasue of how vicious she gets around dogs. Does anyone have any suggestions, or have been in the same position?
My dog is a bit stubborn and i think it would be cool if she could do some tricks.
We have just got a lovely rescue dog.
We live near some woods and when we let Molly off the lead and she sees a squirrel for example she doesn’t take any notice when we shout her to come back to us.
My vet says that I need to put shoes on my dog as he has gotten blisters and an infection when we walk he has gotten fox tails stuck in his feet and sometimes when we take the side walk his feet have gotten blisters cause its to hot now that I moved to where it snows there is ice and the vet said to get shoes for him I did but he hates them he can’t walk right in them so how do I train a dog to walk in shoes
I have seen many questions on training dogs in here, and the advice runs from on end of the spectrum to the other.
So, my question is: Is there ONE method of training that works for every dog?
I train dogs and help people find the breed that suits their lifestyle. I give information on good locations to obtain a dog [breeder, shelter] and how to care, etc. But this service is mainly about training and pet finding.
I’ve had my dog for almost a year and in April he will be two years old (human years). Since my family bought him, we’ve never trained him proficiently, we basically brought him home, showed him his bathroom area, and that’s it. To make it worst, we still have to lead him to his spot to make sure he does not go in my mom’s garden or in the yard. Recently, I’ve taken him out for a walk and it had to be the worst walk ever. It was actually suppose to be a run but I couldn’t even jog without him falling back or stopping completely. He would try to stop and move towards the street when cars came (which of course freaked me out every time), he’d stop every single time we went by a car parked on a street and even a mailbox which resulted in me dragging him majority of the walk. He was so very annoying and disobedient that just decided to pick him up and carry him back home. He’s also scared of every little thing around him.
He’s a chihuahua and even though he’s not a completely obedient pet, I still love him and he’s like family to me. Almost had to give him away once and it might happen again if I don’t get him train. I’m the closes person to him. I heard that it’s hard to train dogs once they are out of their puppy stages because by then, they’ve already developed a personality. So tips, sources, or simply suggestions would help.
I have two puppies who I am training how to use the bathroom outside. I was walking in Walmart and saw the bell you could put on the door so they tell you when they need to go. Does anyone know how to train dogs to use the bells?
I have a 9 month old GSD and am curious at what age i can start his personal protection and muzzle fighting work. I know he will bite because we have performed the character tests as well as some pre-sleeve training at home. I’ve never owned pups. Before, i only bought fully trained dogs but my grandfather left me this dog when he died a couple months ago so I kept him and tested him and he seems to be born for the work. Any one know at what age Helpers are willing to start training? I’ve owned and handled dogs with various titles to include Schutzhund, KNPV, and Ringsport so i’m not worried about the work.
the reason i want muzzle fighting is because my wife and young son take him out on the days when I work late. She will be concerned with my kid while the dog keeps the guy/girl on teh floor until help arrives. Oh, and personal protection does not make a dog mean. In fact, it does the opposite because a degree of obedience is necessary before starting any type of protection work and even more is implemented when the training begins. If you don’t know about truely training dogs, please dont’ answer only opinions.
i’m not sure who or what you are talking about me asking a similar question before. It is possible however, that I left my account signed on and someone asked a question. I personally ahve never trained dogs but i have been a handler in the events and owners. There is a difference between being a handler and a trainer. I will investigate the acqusation about an earlier question however. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention.
tripforyou, let me thank you for brining this issue into light. As stated earlier, my eldest son seems to be at a point where he thinks he is older than he really is. He thinks he can ask ans speak however and whenever he wants. Believe me when I say I will handle this matter personally. To clearify, i did not ask this question earlier. I have found who did and in what manner and words they did. I appologize to anyone who answered the previous question and was offended by the response of my son. To all those that did answer this question, thank you. Your input and opinions are welcomed though not always agreed with. This situation will be handled ASAP.
I have an older, potty trained dog who now has to be on a diuretic (due to a heart condition) which makes him pee a lot. So, now I need to train him to pee on puppy pads or a “Potty Patch” while I’m at work. If anyone has suggestions, then please let me know. Thank you!
